Sun Sap
Following the release of first single 'Miss Behind', South Coast garage rockers Sun Sap are back with 'Walking Out The Door', the second offering from their forthcoming EP Sometimes, Always, Never, Maybe' out February 2 2018.
Showcasing the sextets trademark surf-swag vibes, sun-soaked guitars and intoxicating swagger, 'Walking Out The Door' is a pre-breakup song that anticipates the demise of a relationship and toys with the emotions in this feeling of unsureness
.
Formed on New South Wales’ South Coast, with half the members living there and the other half in Sydney, Sun Sap spend most of their time seeking solace at drummer, Shaun Gaida’s coastal farm. Converging on the farm after some time apart and abroad, the band consisting of Gaida, vocalist Adam McTaggart, guitarists Evan Rotherham and Rob McCauley, vocalist and percussionist Bec Chandler and bassist Aaron Diaz, came together effortlessly to write and record the demos they’d written while away; the project that then evolved into Sun Sap.
2016 saw Sun Sap self-release a trio of singles; Mexico, Tallows and Hanging Hearts, each supported by local radio with the latter appearing on Rage after being deemed “impossible not to like” by Howl & Echoes. This year, Sun Sap have toured extensively in support of The Orwells (USA), Guantanamo Baywatch (USA), Polish Club and Hockey Dad, as well as performing at Yours and Owls festival in October. In between a hectic tour schedule, the band found time to release an additional two tracks, Love is Gone and Miss Behind, the latter of which is the first single release off their upcoming debut EP.
Due for release on February 2nd 2018, Sometimes, Always, Never, Maybe is a five track EP that utilizes a dynamic mix of instrumentation, including piano, celeste, horns, strings, various percussion elements, Mellotron and even a hundred-year-old harmonium. Sonically, the band draw inspiration from the jangling pop melodies of The Kinks, The Beatles, Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The result is sprawling, raw exploration into 60s rock n roll, with tones of sharp clarity to ensure a contemporary edge.
Recorded in Gaida’s home studio, and featuring horn work from members of Kava Kings and Yetti Calzone, the EP steers away from standard guitar rock arrangements, successfully capturing the grittiness and energy of the band’s live performances.
